Wonju Jungang Market was selected as a cultural tourism market in 2015 and, as a result, a marketplace of culture and art opened on the second floor of Jungang Market. The market experienced a recession for various reasons including a fire in 1992, the IMF crisis, the opening of freeways, and the establishment of large-scale indoor markets but, today, it continues to develop and evolve thanks to diverse cultures and art. Wonju Maze Art Market has invited young entrepreneurs to operate a variety of workshops on handicrafts, home cooking, and ceramic arts. On the second Saturday and Sunday of every month, the market hosts varying performances by young artists, a flea market, events for citizens, and experience programs for children. Wonju Maze Art Market is becoming more than just a place where goods are bought and sold but,
instead, transforming itself into a cultural complex.
