💡 Overview

In the late Goryeo era, King Taejo ordered to build a large temple at the foot of Cheonggyesan Mountain for Preceptor Bogak to retire to hermitage. Now, the temple site has become a ruin, with only the Stupa of State Preceptor Bogak, called Jeonghyewonyung, lion stone lantern, and stele for Jeonghyewonyung at the site. Cheongnyongsa Temple, recently built, is also situated in the vicinity of the area along with other Buddhist cultural assets.

💡 Overview

Baengnyeonsa Temple is located at the foothills of Gamaksan Mountain in Jecheon, Chungcheongbuk-do. The temple is currently composed of the main hall Daeungjeon, Samseonggak Shrine, Muyeomdang Hall, Boeungmun Gate, and residential houses. Daeungjeon Hall enshrines a wooden statue of a sitting Buddha, is an artifact from the Joseon period (1392-1910).

The history of the temple dates back to 662 (the second year of King Munmu’s reign during the Silla Kingdom), when a small shrine called Baengnyeonam Hermitage was built by the great monk Uisang on the east side of Baengyeonji Site. The temple has been reconstructed and restored numerous times throughout the course of several wars. The temple once encompassed many branch temples and shrines such as Mireuksa, Sinheungsa, Cheonsuam, Eunjeokam, and Cheongnyeonam, but only their foundation sites remain today.

💡 Overview

Munui Cultural Properties Site, overlooking the Daecheongho Lake, attracts many visitors. The site was created to preserve and promote the local traditional culture of Cheongwon (Chungcheongbuk-do); it is a great place to learn about local history, culture, and arts.

The spacious complex (132,232m²) is a home to ten traditional houses (Munsangwan, aristocrat houses, a museum, and a tavern), showing a form of a traditional village. It is also full of dolmen stones (symbolizing abundant procreation), Jangseung (totem poles at the entrance of villages or temples), and Yeonjabanga (millstones worked by horses or oxen), providing visitors with opportunities to learn about traditional culture and life.

With a theme of roof tiles, a relics gallery in the complex boasts over 774 local items, categorized by historical period (e.g. the Silla Period, Baekje Period, etc.). Munsan-ri Stone Bridge, believed to have been built during the Goryeo Period, was restored in front of the gallery.

The complex also offers a wide array of amenities including mineral spring sites, playgrounds, and Munui Movie Village (a drive-in movie theatert). Nearby notable attractions include artificial falls, Yangseongsan Mountain, Jakdusan Mountain, Daecheongho Lake, Nosan Pine Forest, Donghwasa Temple, and Bugang Mineral Springs.

💡 Overview

Woraksan National Park is located along the Baekdudaegan Mountain Range between Sobaeksan and Songnisan Mountains. The rugged mountain is softened by the waterfalls and small pools found within the valleys. The area was designated as a national park on December 31, 1984. The mountain is surrounded by Chungjuho Lake to the north, the Eight Scenic Views of Danyang and Sobaeksan Mountain to the east, and Mungyeongsaejae Pass and Songnisan Mountain to the south. The main peak of Woraksan National Park is Yeongbong Peak, reaching an altitude of 1,097 meters above sea level. The path there is steep, with sections of rock stretching 150 meters in x_height. There is also a 4-kilometer-long path circling the base rock.

Hello! Here is the detailed information for ‘Binaeseom Island (Binae Trail) (비내섬(비내길))’.

💡 Overview

With dirt roads instead of wooden decks and rustic wooden overhangs instead of lavish displays, Binaeseom Island’s Binae Trail is made of farm roads and trails that villagers use to access orchards and rivers. It is a place with a view of Namhangang River and Binaeseom Island’s fall, and its nearly flat slope makes it accessible for all members of the family. Binae Trail is divided into two courses. Course 1 takes you past the Migratory Bird Observation Park to the riverside trail, the area’s highlight, before passing the old quay and arriving at the Angseong Hot Springs Square in a 7km-long, 2 hr. journey. Course 2 takes you over the Saebajisan Mountain Observatory to Binaeseom Island before re-tracing Course 1 from the old quay. After going down the riverside trail and the Migratory Bird Observation Park, the course takes you back to Angseong Hot Springs Square in a 17km-long, 4 hr. journey.

In <Crash Landing on You>, Binaeseom Island served as the filming location for the scene where the two leads and the supporting actors from the North Korean side have a picnic before the two leads escape from North Korea.

Its primary role is agricultural water supply, yet it doubles as a serene haven for both locals and tourists to stroll and reflect. Established in May 1978, this semi-valley reservoir boasts a rich, dense woodland and an array of ancient trees, contributing to its picturesque allure. The entrance is graced with an avenue of trees, which, come autumn, transforms into a golden canopy as the ginkgo leaves change hue. It’s a popular locale for families to convene, enjoying leisurely fishing and the peaceful surroundings.
